Escalator Replacement in Terminal A Begins Monday Night
Next week we begin the replacement of the first of the two escalators inside Terminal A at the north end, near the American Airlines curbside check-in.

Starting Tuesday morning, June 3, the southern escalator and stairs will serve passengers for all the airlines at Terminal A, including Southwest, American, Hawaiian, and Mexicana through the summer months.  Once the northern escalator and stairs are replaced with two wider escalators, the work will move to the southern escalator near the Southwest Airlines check-in.  Each escalator will take about four months to complete.

We encourage our passengers who aren’t checking baggage to be dropped off at the “arrivals curb” on the garage side of the terminal road, and enter the terminal over the pedestrian bridge from the garage.  This will help reduce congestion at curbside check-in.

Airport Launches "SJC Free Wi-Fi"
SJC now offers the first free full-service wireless Internet service in any Bay Area commercial airport, complete with 24-hour customer support and a free “virtual private network” security application. This is another step toward our goal of making SJC the airport of choice for Silicon Valley business travelers with services that help them become more productive.

Free wireless Internet is now available in all public areas of both Terminal A and Terminal C, with the exception of the Terminal A baggage claim area. Free Wi-Fi also will be included in the new Terminal B and North Concourse when they are placed in service. Commercial wireless Internet service currently provided by T-Mobile and Wayport will continue to remain available to their subscribers at the airport.

Pile Driving to Start for Southern Overcrossing on Airport Boulevard
We’ll be starting the last batch of pile driving for the entire airport improvement program in early June, this time for the new bridge at the south end of the Airport’s terminal loop road, south of Terminal C.  This work is scheduled to take about four weeks, and it will all be done during the day, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.  By early July, we will be finished with all our pile driving and the noise associated with this stage of construction.

USO Moved Near Terminal C
The USO building at the Airport was relocated last week to a site near the Terminal C baggage claim area to clear the way for the next stages of roadway construction south of the Terminal A garage.  The new location will improve access to USO services for military passengers and their families because they more frequently fly with carriers at Terminal C, and the former USO site is now occupied by construction activity.  Ultimately USO will be relocated to the ground level of the North Concourse.

Airport Construction "Hot Line" -- (408) 501-0630
For current information about construction impacts to the airport, call (408) 501-0630.  We will update the recorded message to help our passengers as we make changes affecting roads, terminals, and parking at SJC over the next two years.

Construction Schedules Are Subject to Change
Because the $1.3 billion project to replace and upgrade the SJC terminal area is complex and moving very fast, our construction schedules are subject to continuing revision.  We will keep updating the public and our customers about the project details as they occur, but please bear with us as we adjust schedules for the project over the next two years.  We appreciate your patience, and thank you for flying San José while we build The New Airport for you.
